Precision leak detection for safety, compliance and cost savings.
How It Works
Helium leak detection was invented by VEECO in 1945, and the technology has continued to evolve ever since. Modern leak detectors use mass spectrometry to identify trace amounts of helium gas, whether sampled from positive pressure ("sniffing") or under vacuum, giving a precise and reliable leak rate reading.
What to Look For When Choosing a Leak Detector
- Maximum Inlet Pressure
important if you're dealing with gross leaks. Most bench units handle 10 to 15 mbar, while systems with additional pump sets can detect leaks up to atmospheric pressure. - Helium Pumping Speed
higher is better. Some units have poor clean up rates after detecting large amounts of gas. - Dual Filament Ion Source
always preferable. Single filaments are prone to failure from gas pressure in rush. - Calibrated Leak
gives assurance the unit can be tested accurately in just a few minutes. - Wet or Dry
most leak detectors use oil sealed rotary vane fore pumps, which outperform scroll or diaphragm dry options. Dry systems are sometimes required for cleanroom environments, but need more frequent servicing.
Automated Production Leak Testing
We provide consultation and advice on high volume automated leak test production tools from Vacuum Engineering Ltd, a UK manufacturer with over 500 production leak test systems built to date.
Why Leak Test
Helium leak testing helps lower operating costs, keeps your business in line with emissions and safety legislation, and reduces the risk of costly equipment failure.
